Just wanted to throw this in to the mix to try and generate a little controversy. Things are a little slow for a Tuesday, must be this holiday thing I keep hearing so much about.
For the record I’m a vegetarian (not vegan — I’m working on it) and a backer of animal rights. At the same time I don’t believe I know everything there is to know about everything. It’s just my personal choice. Everyone has to act according to their own moral compass, and accept the consequences of their actions. If I can live in a manner that lessens the suffering of other living beings, that’s the road I will choose. That’s just me.
Feel free to froth and hurl vituperative insults. I would expect nothing less. I’ve been hardened through a personal training program on Digg (a cesspool of trailer park tea baggers, whose ignorance runs in inverse proportion to their angry vocalizings), so don’t worry about my feelings. I find such things amusing.
And just to pre-empt some 90% of the coming arguments, animals are horrible models for diseases such as HIV and cancer, and indeed our reluctance to experiment on humans (on a voluntary basis, not on prisoners and the military, as is the current practice) has held back breakthroughs in science by years if not decades.
