The last 300 days:
50, 182,850 worldwide deaths
5,850 deaths from H1N1

Ok, before we let the red skull and black background scare us, let’s look at some stats:
Cause of death rank: 7th leading cause of death in 1999 and 2000 is “pneumonia/influenza” (CDC)
Death rate extrapolations for USA for Flu: 63,729 per year, 5,310 per month, 1,225 per week, 174 per day, 7 per hour, 0 per minute, 0 per second. Note: this automatic extrapolation calculation uses the deaths statistic: 63,730 annual deaths for influenza and pneumonia (NVSR Sep 2001); estimated 20,000 deaths from flu (NIAID)
So if you do the math…which I have…that’s an AVERAGE of 5,310 deaths per month by the flu — multiply x10 to get roughly 300 days, then you have you have 50,310 deaths by influenza during the same time-frame…
So even if one-tenth of the normal flu deaths are due to H1N1, I guess I’m unimpressed…
…but it sure is a scary looking poster.
I’m not saying H1N1 isn’t a potential epidemiological catastrophe, but I am saying this poster fails to make that case.
